December Meeting

Published on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Past Events:

November was a fairly quiet month, but we did have a couple of fun events.  UTI sponsored an event in which several WR members attended to promote the club and the Copperstate Show.

The D3 Club put on their first show called The Volksfest (see previous post).  The show was a huge success and we look forward to many more.  Go D3!!

Coming events:

This coming Saturday the Nasty Habit Volkswagen Club will be putting on a charity show in South West Phoenix.  Nancy will forward the flyer, but you can also access it on Hot Rod Planet http://www.hotrodplanet.com/  Wolfsburg Registry will be donating Diapers as a club, and individual show participants are encouraged to bring baby supplies or unwrapped toys.

The President Speaks:

With Board nominations due to be taken during January’s meeting, Jeff wanted to be sure there was enough interest to replace the board members who are planning to step down.  It was decided that the club needs to consider taking a different direction and will begin a “re-structuring” to become more of a “social” club without formal officers.  Monthly meetings will continue.  Due to the upcoming Copperstate Show in February, it was agreed that changes will be tabled until after the show.

The Copperstate Show will be put on as planned, and positions were discussed.  Some of the positions were taken or assigned, but many more need to be filled.  All of the remaining positions will be filled during the month of January.  The Daily Driven Dubs Club has committed to helping out again this year, so it appears we will be covered.

2009 was a difficult year for many, but we are grateful to have a solid core group who care about each other and share a common interest.  When things get tough, there is Wolfsburg Registry and Volkswagens to make things easier to manage.  2010 WILL be a better year and we will be starting it off with a bang, with the biggest and best Copperstate Show EVER!

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a healthy and prosperous New Year!!

November Meeting

Published on Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Past Events:

With the cooler weather, we have begun the show season here in Arizona.  First on the schedule was the Chirco show down in Tucson.  Several members went down and had a ball (see earlier post).  The next event was the D3 Volksfest which was really great (see earlier post).  Both shows got us off to a great start and with the beautiful evenings, we now have plenty of cruise nights to go to.  It’s fun to start seeing familiar faces and air cooled cars driving around again.

Jeff Stewart went to a new show called “Fired Up” put on by the Peoria Fire Department.  This was an all makes show and as usual, Jeff and Tom represented WR and Volkswagens everywhere well with a “Top Five” Award.  They beat out a bunch of muscle cars, so we can be proud.  Sounded like a fun event that we should include on our “not to be missed” schedule for next year.  Their next show will be in March.

Upcoming Events:

Nancy brought up the having a Christmas dinner / party at a restaurant of our choice.  We need to decide what we want to do since anyplace we go will certainly need advance group reservations.  The weeks seem to fly by!  Are we really closing in on Christmas??

Buses by the Bridge is coming up in January for all you Bus guys.

There is a Crisis Nursery Cruise in Levine at the Wienerschnitzel at 5220 W Baseline Road coming up on December 12th.  Diapers and canned foods are greatly appreciated.  Free soft drinks will be provided to anyone bringing out their precious metal (that would be your car :-)).  Please come if you can.

The next WR meeting will be on December 8th.

The President Speaks:

This months meeting had a small turn out, so Jeff made his presentation brief.  We had some shirts to pass out and he did talk about the UTI outing this coming Friday that we need volunteers for.  Any support we can give UTI will be appreciated and the exposure for our show is valuable.

The meeting was adjourned early and we all ended up in the parking lot for an hour or so of bench racing and general catch up discussions.

See you all next month!

Volksfest 2009

Published on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

This past Sunday the Daily Driven Dubs VW club held their first annual car show…Volksfest.  The weather was great, the venue was spacious and the turnout was awesome!  The total show car count ended up at 167!!  Quite a turn out for a first ever show. Great job D3!

Wolfsburg Registry had a pretty good turn out with 13 members bringing 10 cars and one camper / boat…nice display Bryan.  As usual we did well and brought home a total of 5 trophies.  Deena won Peoples Choice for best Type III and first place in her class with her totally original 64 Squareback.  Tom Edwards won first place for Custom Ghia with his sweeeet Red 70, Bryan Fenwick won first place in his class with his Sea Blue 65 Beetle sedan, and George Meyer won Peoples Choice for best paint and fist in class for Type I Stock with his 61 Rag Top Beetle.  Way to go everyone!

A good time was had by all and we look forward to Volksfest II

Bugtoberfest

Published on Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Well another Bugtoberfest is in the books for Joe Chirco and his hard working support group.  Several Wolfsburg Registry members went down on Saturday morning and stayed at the new host hotel.  The reviews I heard were excellent.  It looks like Don and Lemorris hit on something for sure.

As usual, we (Wolfsburg Registry) did well and came home with plenty of hardware.  A total of five trophies including First place for Tom Edwards for best Ghia, First place for Terry Skinner for best daily driver.  Nancy and Katie cleaned up with three second place trophies.  One for water cooled (Katies New Beetle), one for special interest (Nancy’s Eriba Puck camper) and one for Nancy’s Type 3 Fastback.  In case you’re wondering, Katie pulled the Puck down with her Beetle.

All told, it was a productive (and warm) weekend for the club.  Everyone went home happy, but tired.  Thanks to the great folks at Chirco Automotive!  Another great year!! Can’t wait for Bugtoberfest 15.

One more thing…you can check out the videos Lemorris does every year at www.chirco.com  If you missed the show, don’t miss the video’s.

September Meeting

Published on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

This past month a former Wolfsburg Registry member and key part of the VW community passed away.  Jerry Jess (Uncle Jerry) has been a key part of the Soutwestern VW scene for so long, we just can’t imagine an event without him riding his bike around and talking to everyone while his wife Melissa dilegently sold their toys and collectibles.  Jerry was the voice of many of the local shows and always entertained the kids with his games and fun prizes.

It’s a sad time for the VW Family and our hearts go out to Melissa.  Thank you Jerry for being the colorful character that you were…you will be missed.

Past Events:

The Jerry Jess memorial was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the VW Community.  The turn out was huge and in true Dubbers style, lots of pizza and liquid refreshments were put away, tons of stories exchanged and plenty of laughs.  Jerry would have loved it.

Don and Lee Bulitta were gracious enough to have another of their famous BBQ and pool parties.  Lot’s of food, and a great time was had by all.  Thanks guys!!

Steve Timarac hosted a tech session where he “allowed” Nancy and Katie to put new front seat covers on his bug…pretty smart feller that Steve.  It came up as a rather short notice affair, so the attendance wasn’t very high, but the seats got done and Steve is stylin!  I am thinking about having a tech session next month…hey girls, what do you know about running a buffer??  :-)

Terry Skinner hosted a run to Prescott which turned out great.  Ten members climbed the hill and had a terrific lunch in the cool pines.  Lets do that again soon!

Upcoming Events:

The Jerome Jamboree will be held this month on the weekend of the 12th.  We hear that the gravel road leading to the site is now paved!  No stopping us now!

The VW Treffen will take place on the weekend of the 12th in Anaheim CA.  This is a not to be missed show if you are interested in early original VW’s.

The Vegas Bugorama will be on the 3rd and 4th of October this year.  More info on the Bugorama website.

The Chirco Show will be on the weekend of October 17th.  Check out their website for information and great video’s about the show and from past shows.  Lemorris is now working for Joe so stand by for plenty more video fun.

November 1st is the new Volksfest put on by the Daily Driven Dubs at Glendale Community College…be there!

The President Speaks:

This month we have a lot to go over so Jeff kept regular club business brief.  We do have new Tee shirts for sale and orders can be placed with Jeri.  We need to buy 60 to get the volume break, so buy a shirt for everyone in your family :-)

Walter Pendleton had a presentation about a new website he is proposing.  He did a great job and there was plenty of interest and questions for him afterwards.  Thanks for putting it together Walter!

Jeff reports that we have confirmation for most of the Copperstate sponsors and the new management at UTI has given their blessings.  We talked a bit about what classes we should have for this coming year and it looks like we will keep the same format as last year.  The Heritage Collection seemed to be a hit, so we will be doing it next year as well.  As usual, we have suggestions as to how we can improve and we want to take them all under consideration.  We hope this coming show will be our best ever and look forward to February!

See you next month!!
