K Cruise

Published on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Okay you die hard summer drivers…You will all remember David and Jason from Daily Driven Dubs (D3) came out to our July meeting in an effort to extend the hand of inter club friendship.  How cool was that?  David mentioned what they call the “K Cruise” which is every Saturday night in the K Mart parking lot just South of Hampton, and about a quarter mile East of Power Road in Mesa.  For you West side members, Hampton is about a quarter mile North of the 60 Freeway.  Take US 60 Waaaaaaaaaaay East and exit at Power Road, North (left) about a quarter mile to Hampton, turn East (right) to K Mart about an eighth to a quarter mile on right….easy.

The K Cruise is an “all makes” cruise night, but draws as many as 30 VW’s from the area.  Let’s get as many Wolfsburg Registry Members to drive their rides up there this coming Saturday July 26th.  No special meeting time, just come when you can and wear a club shirt.  There is a Wendy’s right next to the cruise parking and a Little Ceasar’s in the K Mart.  This is a family event, so bring the kids.  D3 is a friendly and welcoming bunch I think you will enjoy hanging out with.

SEE YOU THERE!!

Ice Cream Social A Success

Published on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Well…Nancy amd Katie pulled off another successful ice cream social despite triple digit temperatures.  17 members drove their “hot” cars for the photo shoot, and many more came by way of more civilized means of transport.  It was warm and a bit muggy at first, but the sun went behind the neighborhood roof lines and the shady park across from Nancy’s house turned out to be a breezy respite from the heat.  Why, there was even a table set up with several flavors of ice cream and lots of different toppings…how convenient!  Everyone knows how those Wolfsburg Registry Members love to drive and eat.

Most of us took pictures, but member Greg Medico organized the attending members for a group shot (good luck with that Greg) and also took pictures of the cars from more of a proffesional perspective.  I can’t wait to see them.  Frenchy and Judy passed along some old club photo albums to me this past week and I brought them to share with the group.  We saw some familiar faces, but gee their hair seemed darker to me hmmm.

Overall the evening was a huge success and we must thank Nancy and Katie for putting it on.  Oh wait…we really should thank Nancy’s husband Chuck for allowing the nutty VW crew to decend upon their beautiful home once more.  I am sure he will be explaining what was going on to their confused neighbors for weeks.  Thanks guys!  we look forward to next time!!

Chirco Show

Published on Friday, July 18th, 2008

Looking out over our dim headlights we see the Chirco Show coming up down in Tucson on October 19th.  I know it seems like a long way off, but boy the weeks sure fly!  I know that Nancy will be planning ahead and there will be details forthcoming.  Jeff thought it may be a good idea to remind everyone so that we can plan ahead.  This is a really fun event, where we usually meet early Saturday morning and caravan to Tucson for a day of family style VW fun.  Joe Chirco puts on a great BBQ at his store Saturday evening with the show and swap meet starting early Sunday morning.  As you know the more the merrier, so please plan on joining us for the first “cool” show of the season.  Stay tuned for deatails as we near this event.

July Meeting

Published on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Long time club member Kelly Haines suffered the loss of her mother this past June 27th.  Our hearts and sympathies go out to Kelly and her family.  It was good to see Kelly and Blair at the meeting and to know they are doing as well as can be expected under these difficult circumstances.

Semper Fidelis:

Well, Robert Patyi really went and did it this time!  He joined the Marines!!  Robert begins his basic training and boot camp this coming January.  Good luck Robert…let me know if you need anyone to exercise your bug while you are away :-)  Seriously though…all your friends at Wolfsburg Registry are proud to have one of “our family” protecting our shores and will be here to welcome you back.

This past months events:

The Tempe Sonic Cruise was well attended despite the warm evening.  The die hards were out in force.

Nancy organized a breakfast run (see previous posting) to cave creek which was a real success.

Coming Events:

Tempe Sonic Cruise on the North side of Broadway just East of Rural Road this coming Friday the 11th.  I heard it is supposed to be in the mid 70’s with a light breeze…see you there.

Ice Cream Social and Group Photo Opportunity at Nancy Axtell’s house Saturday the 19th beginning at 6:00 PM.  Please drive your car and bring chairs.  We plan to take a group photo, so please be there on time due to lighting limitations.  Nancyand Chuck have a large park with lots of grass and trees across from their house.  Nancy and Katie hosted this event a couple of years ago and it was really fun.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Please contact Nancy or Katie for directions.

Guest Club:

David Butterfly and Jason Kroll representing the “Daily Driven Dubs” joined us to extend their hand of friendship and offer their help for this coming Copperstate Show.  David expressed his clubs interest in possibly organizing some cooperative outings in the coming year.  I think we would all enjoy giving that a try sometime and look forward to making plans.  David also mentioned their website and encouraged all VW people to visit.  I checked out the site myself and have added it to our “links”.  Nice site guys!  Check it out…

The President Speaks:

As we are now becoming accustomed, Jeff began his portion of the meeting by raffling off several prizes.  The reoccuring theme seems to be car wash products.  We can all use those, but I was thinking…is he trying to tell us something?  I know Jeff is trying to raise the bar, maybe this is one of his tactics :-)  Kidding Jeff…you rock.

Later this month, Jeff and I will be meeting with the GM at UTI to discuss the Copperstate Show.  I know it seems early, but we found out last year that we can’t “coast” on our past sucesses.  This year we will be starting early and asking every member to participate at some level.  We should all take a certain amount of ownership and pride in what we have accomplished over the years.  I personally think we have the best show in the state and we should strive to make it better each year.  We have the talent to shine in 2009…too corny?  Nancy has already created a draft for our new flyer which we will be distributing this fall.

Once again the meeting was short and sweet, giving us all time to socialize and talk about our current projects.

Side Bar:

As Jeff requested last month, I have already recieved a Member Biography to post.  Don Bulitta has provided his and I will be posting it very soon.  I am currently working on a web site issue and hope to have it worked out ASAP.  Thanks to Don for geting his to me so quick.  It would be great if everyone else could get me (e-mail) a brief bio describing yourself and your history in the VW Hobby.  Hopefully by the time I begin getting the flood of e-mails from you all :-), I will be organized enough to post them.

Thanks!!

See you at Nancy’s!

Successful Run to Cave Creek

Published on Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Hello all:

Just an update to say “thank you” to all who braved the early hours
and the valley road closures to participate in the breakfast cruise to
Cave Creek. I posted a few pictures in the photo section here on the
Yahoo site so check them out. We had 17 in attendance including Don
and Lee’s adorable grandkids. Despite a small glitch with George’s
convertible we all made it to Harold’s in one piece. As Jeff says,
it’s all about the cars and the fun (and of course, the food).

Keep cool!

Nancy
